Budding Orators!
IHS Students Participate and Win Big at the Inter-School, Jawaharlal Nehru Declamation Contest.

The Jawaharlal Nehru Declamation took place on the 7th of December, 2013, at the Sheikh Rashid Auditorium of Indian High School, Dubai. Over, 20 CBSE schools from the UAE took part in this prestigious title. It is primarily hosted by the English department of the Indian High School, Dubai.

IHS student won the first position during this title. Students were on stage one after the other with their speeches, the competition was indeed rigorous. This year IzaanKhan from IHS won the first place. He delivered a spectacular speech which had touched many hearts including the heart of the Head of the English Department, Dr. Almeida. IHS won the first place but as the host school, decided to give the trophy to DPS Dubai, as they won the second place.

On speaking to the head of the English Department, Dr. Alemida, said, "to win declamation like these, you will need to have a thorough study in the matter; you also need to consult your parents and your teachers about the content, expressions and presentation of the speech." He also told Izaan's speech had the proper content and the development of the argument was also done well.

Furthermore, the winner of the declamation, Izaan Khan also conveyed his thoughts regarding the competition, he mentioned, "I had practiced daily for one hour in front of the mirror and in front of my parents. I had put myself in the shoe of the convict as my speech was ‘does death penalty violate human rights' and I guess at the end of the day hard work did pay me back. I hopefully will take part in the declamation for next year and give a tough competition to the participants." It is indeed commendable to see the way our students practice and approach these competitions. Not only are such competitions important for their development but also help boost student's confidence and enhance their knowledge on the subject.

Dr. Almeida also added, "In the upcoming years more importance will be given to these kinds of declamation and even Inter-House declamation can be expected in the future." He even wants to promote public speaking because it develops ones personality and helps in attaining a status in the society. Jawaharlal Nehru Declamation is to be expected next year and our students will hopefully help IHS in procuring the first place, yet again.
