Three Under 16 age group of basketball team from the Indian High School participated in the Asia-Pacific Basketball Tournament, held in Singapore from 23rd to 29th October, 2012. The tournament saw best teams from all over Asia, Australia and some Pacific Islands participate in this tournament. IHS was the only school to represent the Gulf region at this level.
The tournament primarily exposed the basketball players of IHS to play with different competitors, to engage and understand their weaknesses and strengths and to further improve.
“The teams were divided into 2 pools consisting of 4 teams each and each team played 3 matches in the first round. Out of the three basketball teams, two were team of girls and the other a team of boys. While one of the girls team qualified for the semi-finals, the boys team ranked 2nd in their category.” stated one of the IHS basketball team members.
One being asked about their experience at the tournament, Prachi Sahoo, an 11th grader teammate, said, “We got a good exposure and got to know our weaknesses and how to improve upon it and know where we stand.”
Adding on to Sahoo comment, Aayushi Chudgar another 11th grader teammate said, “It was loads of fun and we learnt to improve our game. The trip to Singapore also consisted of touring various landmarks such as the Night Safari, Universal Studios, the Merlion and a visit to the Sentosa Island.”
The trip primarily served good for an experience, combined with a tour of the country. Commenting on the aforementioned, Mr. Tapan Das, the Supervisor of the sports department said, “It was a very good exposure for our students to play against the teams from this region. It was overall a good learning experience for our school teams as well.” At the end even though winning is essential, what truly matter is that the teams play in good spirit and interact with groups from different nationalities.
